Match Preview: Manchester City vs Aston Villa (Premier League)
On Sunday afternoon, Manchester City will take on Aston Villa in the Premier League, as they look to get back to winning ways and capitalise on another Arsenal result.
In their outing, City took on Tottenham Hotspur in the capital, as the league’s reigning champions looked to close their gap on current leaders Arsenal following their shock defeat to Sean Dyche’s rejuvenated Everton.
However, Pep Guardiola’s squad would fail to convert the majority share of possession into anything more than just three shots on target, with many of these opportunities coming after Harry Kane’s opening goal in the 15th minute.
There was one final chance for Manchester City late on in the contest, after Cristian Romero was sent off for a second yellow card in the 87th minute, although nothing was to come from it.
Failing to salvage a single point from their visit to North London meant Manchester City continued to sit back from first place via a five-point deficit, barring the result of the Gunners’ match against Brentford on Saturday.
An Ivan Toney effort at the Emirates Stadium however now provides Manchester City with another opportunity to close the gap on their league title rivals to three points – going into the meeting between the two sides on Wednesday night.
This weekend, City face Aston Villa, who have been in good form since the hiring of Unai Emery. However, the West Midlands club fell to Leicester last week via a 4-2 scoreline as James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho, Tete, and Dennis Praet found their way onto the scoring sheet.
Week after week, each game is starting to become more important for the reigning Premier League champions to keep themselves in the title race, with a win on Sunday making Wednesday night’s meeting even more important than it already is.
