Manchester City release statement following Premier League investigation
Manchester City have released the following statement following charges made by the Premier League on Monday morning.
City have been charged by the Premier League for several alleged breaches of financial rules following a four-year investigation.
The Premier League have also announced that they have referred a series of alleged offences to an independent commission, with charges spanning from the 2009/2010 season.
Charges by the Premier League relate to financial information, profitability and sustainability, player and manager remuneration, failure to cooperate and UEFA regulations.
The charges relate to incidents spanning from the 2009/10 campaign to the 2017/18 season, with Manchester City having won six Premier League titles since the Abu Dhabi takeover.
An official release from the club in response to the aforementioned news, now reads:
“Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
In 2020, Manchester City had a two-year ban from the UEFA Champions League overturned following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Manchester City won the Premier League title during the 2011/12, 2013/14, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21 and 2021/22 season.
