Manchester City are set to pocket £10.2 million as a result of Pedro Porro’s transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs, who host City in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, have signed former Blues player Pedro Porro.

The North London club have been strongly linked with the full-back throughout the January transfer window and are set to complete the signing of the 23 year-old after overcoming a series of complications.

Porro, who never made a first-team appearance for Manchester City, moved to Sporting Lisbon for £7 million last summer after two years on loan.

Manchester City included a series of additional details in the full-backs contract, including a buy-back clause and sell-on clause.

The 23 year-olds pending switch to London has activated the latter, with the Premier League champions having a 30% sell-on clause.

Spurs have triggered Porro’s €45 million release clause, which is set to pocket Manchester City a significant £10.2 million, according to journalist Paul Hirst.

However, the Blues will not receive the funds until the summer, as Porro is joining Spurs on an initial loan until the end of the season.

The deal includes an obligation for Spurs to make the signing of the full-back permanent in the summer, meaning City will earn £10.2 million when this goes through.

Porro will become the second player to earn the Blues money through sell-on clauses this month after Ivan Ilic signed for Olympique Marseille.

In that deal, City included a 25% sell-on clause, and as such will take around €4 million from the agreed €15 million fee.

Porro could make his Spurs debut against City on Sunday, when Pep Guardiola’s side travel to the capital looking for their first win away against Spurs in four years.
