With Erling Haaland consistently going from strength to strength at Manchester City, it comes as no surprise to see questions relentlessly asked about his future with the club.

The Norwegian international striker continued his blistering start to his Manchester City career over the weekend, as his hat-trick in 17 in-game minutes against Wolves secured Pep Guardiola’s side back-to-back wins in the top-flight after their heartache at Old Trafford.

That takes the 22 year-old’s total for Manchester City since joining the club just six months ago up to a staggering 31 goals and three assists in just 26 appearances across all competitions.

But while City supporters certainly cannot take their eyes away from the striking sensation this season, there remains one question constantly hovering over the striker: How long will he remain in Sky Blue?

Those questions have been present ever since he joined the club, while talk of joining La Liga giants Real Madrid at some stage in his footballing career continued to circle, and such thoughts only escalated when murmurs of a release clause were confirmed.

However, it does appear as thought City fans should have next to nothing to worry about in regards to Erling Haaland and his release clause at the Etihad Stadium.

As reiterated by Ben Jacobs in his write-up on Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Haaland is not even thinking about moving away from Manchester City – despite it being known that he has a release clause becoming active in the next few seasons.

Unsurprisingly given the visible mentality of the player, it is reminded that Erling Haaland is ‘fully focused’ on winning trophies with Manchester City, and of course, breaking goal-scoring records across competitions.

But what are the facts concerning the Norway international’s release clause at the Etihad Stadium?

As per Ben Jacobs, a €200 million release clause will start to kick in for Erling Haaland from the summer of 2024, but it can only be triggered by clubs outside of the Premier League. It is further stated that this sum will decrease the longer the striker stays at Manchester City.

Jacobs’ take on the situation still heavily favours those at Manchester City, as he says, “Even if they (interested clubs) were prepared to meet the value and Haaland really wanted to go, but in that situation City would probably just negotiate anyway, though we’re so far from that scenario that it almost feels laughable to discuss it.”

Away from the talks of Haaland’s release clause, Ben Jacobs also reports that should things continue to go so well for the player, then Manchester City would also likely offer him new terms further down the line – making any 2024 release clause fairly redundant.

Erling Haaland will turn his attentions back towards the Emirates FA Cup this week, as Manchester City have their first battle against their Premier League title rivals this season – with Arsenal the visitors to the Etihad Stadium.

City know that after their Carabao Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Southampton this month, only three trophies remain up for grabs, with the FA Cup accompanied by the Premier League, and of course the UEFA Champions League in the Etihad club’s sights.

Should City secure any of those three trophies, then one would expect Erling Haaland to have played a significant role in such a triumph given his current goalscoring record alongside his teammates at the club so far this season.
