Manchester City have completed an agreement with Coventry City for the loan of Josh Wilson-Esbrand until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old left-back joined Manchester City from West Ham United’s Academy in 2019, with his move to Coventry being his first loan spell away from the Etihad Stadium in his professional career.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand made his first-team debut for City in September 2021, starting for Pep Guardiola’s side in a 6-1 Carabao Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers – a game in which he also provided an assist.

As well as featuring against Bayern Munich during City’s 2022 pre-season tour of the United States, Wilson-Esbrand also played against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in a charity friendly last August.

This season, he has featured in Champions League wins over Copenhagen and Sevilla, both at the Etihad Stadium, while the rest of his campaign has been plagued by injury. Josh Wilson-Esbrand will now be hoping that the move to Coventry will allow him to take on much needed minutes.

Speaking in light of the completed deal, Coventry manager Mark Robins said, “We are delighted to welcome Josh (Wilson-Esbrand) to the Club on loan until the end of the season.

“He is a very talented footballer, with pace, power and technical ability, and a lot of potential. He has been in and around the first-team set-up at Manchester City over the last 12 months and this is his first loan spell away from the Club.”

Robins continued as he thanked the Premier League champions, “We’re looking forward to working with him and thank everyone at Manchester City for their co-operation in Josh joining us for the rest of the season.”

Everyone at City Xtra would like to wish Josh all the very best during his time at Coventry!
