Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus hold interest in Manchester City defender – Premier League move also speculated
Manchester City and Brazil international right-back Yan Couto is likely to be on the move once again this summer, with high-level interest from across Europe.
The 21-year-old is expected to face a dilemma over his longer-term Manchester City future this summer, coming into the transfer market off the back of a remarkable season on-loan with fellow City Football Group side Girona.
Under the coaching and guidance of manager Míchel, Couto was an integral cog in Girona’s pursuit of a top finish in the Spanish top-flight, securing a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League despite the odds stacked against them.
But with that success also comes significant transfer demand in services, and coupled alongside a breakthrough into the Brazilian national team, Couto is expected to be one of the best assets potential available in the market.
The latest report has pointed towards transfer interest from across European competition, with Couto himself recently admitting that a decision over his Manchester City future is yet to be taken.
According to the information of TNT Sports journalist Fred Caldeira, newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Serie A giants Juventus, are two potential destinations for Manchester City’s highly-rated full-back Yan Couto.
The recently-capped Brazil international could also yet remain at Girona for the forthcoming season following on from their UEFA Champions League qualification, while the report also indicates that unnamed clubs from within the Premier League are keen.
Speaking during an interview earlier this year, Couto revealed that alongside the input of his representatives, he has started ‘planning objectives’ for the upcoming season over Manchester City’s expectations and crucially, whether he will feature on Pep Guardiola’s pre-season tour.
“I’m talking a lot with my agents, we have to start planning objectives, I have a contract (at Manchester City) until 2026,” Couto said. “It’s a conversation we have a lot, what they expect in future. We’ll talk, nothing has been decided yet, we’ll see if I go to pre-season or not.”
He continued, “I don’t think I can say about the future yet, it’s still early, towards the end of the season. I’m focused on football, I leave it to my agents, I’m trying to do my bit, and I think it’s been a very good season for me and Girona.”
