Sergio Aguero to come out of retirement in June and debut new Manchester City shirt
Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero will come out of retirement from football to play in his own team this summer, it has been confirmed in recent days.
Sergio Aguero announced his retirement from the top-level professional game in the winter of 2021 – just six months into his new career with La Liga giants FC Barcelona, having ended a legendary time with the reigning Premier League champions.
Aguero recorded a remarkable 390 appearances across all competitions for three different Manchester City managers in Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini, and current Etihad head coach Pep Guardiola.
Scoring 260 goals in the process, Aguero made himself Manchester City’s outright leading goalscorer in the club’s history, whilst also claiming a staggering 14 trophies in a decade-long career with the north-west side.
While it has been several years since football supporters were last able to see Aguero in action, an opportunity to see one of the game’s finest players once again has emerged in the media in recent days.
As per confirmation from various media channels, Manchester City and Argentina legend Sergio Agüero will come out of retirement to play in his own team in ‘The Soccer Tournament’ at WakeMed Soccer Park of Cary, North Carolina.
7vs7 tournament TST have unveiled that Sergio Aguero will feature in a team of hand picked players by the legendary forward himself, with ‘AGUERO TEAM’ also debuting Manchester City’s brand new 2024/25 home kit at the tournament.
TST will be returning to WakeMed Soccer Park from June 5 to June 10, with this year’s competition featuring two separate ‘$1 Million, winner-take-all brackets’, with the men’s bracket consisting of 48 teams.
Both tournaments – men’s and women’s – will utilise a “World Cup style” format, consisting of group play and single-elimination knockout rounds, giving Manchester City supporters plenty of opportunity to catch another glimpse of Sergio Aguero in action.
