Manchester City facing Premier League fixture scheduling nightmare as Tottenham clash confirmed
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City face the prospect of travelling to Tottenham for their penultimate Premier League fixture of the campaign.
The treble-winners remain in the hunt to retain last season’s three trophies after progressing to the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday evening, beating Newcastle United 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium courtesy of Bernardo Silva’s brace.
Two deflected first-half efforts saw Pep Guardiola’s side reach a sixth successive FA Cup semi-final, with the Sky Blues set to travel to Wembley Stadium for a 19th time under the Catalonian’s management.
As well as overcoming Newcastle, Manchester City have previously beaten Huddersfield Town, Tottenham and Luton Town in the competition so far this season.
City, who will be in the FA Cup semi-finals next month, will join Coventry City in the draw for the last-four, and will find out tomorrow which two of Chelsea, Leicester City, Manchester United and Liverpool will complete the Wembley line-up.
As a result of Saturday’s FA Cup clash, Manchester City’s Premier League meeting away to Brighton was postponed, with the game set to be played next month in-between potential UEFA Champions League quarter-final and semi-finals.
The Blues’ Premier League clash away at Tottenham has now also been postponed, with City having been scheduled to travel to north London on Saturday 20th April.
Should Guardiola’s side successfully overcome Real Madrid in the last-eight of the Champions League then Manchester City would face the prospect of travelling to Tottenham in May, facing Ange Postecoglou’s team during the final week of the campaign.
A clash away to Spurs would become the Blues’ penultimate game of the league campaign, with City currently one point behind both Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.
City also have a dismal record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having won on just one of their previous six visits.
Tottenham are themselves bidding to secure a Champions League finish and could impact the Premier League title race, with Arsenal and Liverpool also due to face Spurs before the end of the campaign.
