Manchester City and England international star Kyle Walker has congratulated Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for the work achieved at Anfield in his career.

The iconic and legendary German coach will bring an end to his Premier League career this summer, following his announcement earlier this year confirming his exit from Liverpool after a nine-year stay with the club.

Across the course of his time with Liverpool, Klopp and his various squads have managed to claim almost every trophy available, winning the likes of the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

In amongst that time, Liverpool and Manchester City have formed a special rivalry in domestic competition, whilst also facing off in European competition on two occasions, with players of the latter appreciating the challenge that has been put to them.

Reflecting on the rivalry formed between Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool over the seasons, Etihad captain Kyle Walker sent a message of congratulations to the Anfield tactician via the official club website.

“It’s been a special and enjoyable rivalry,” said Walker. “When you’ve got two teams fighting for the top – we’ve had some great games over the last number of years – I have to say big congratulations for what he’s (Jurgen Klopp) done.”

Continuing by discussing some of the battles encountered between the two clubs over the years, including the most-recent 1-1 draw at Anfield in the Premier League, Walker said, “In all these big games, it’s like a chess match.

“You take the advantage in certain parts; they take the advantage in certain parts. For the neutrals, it’s obviously a great spectacle and always a good game when these two clubs play each other. We came here to get the three points, but we’ll take the point and move on now.”

“What he’s (Pep Guardiola) done and the clubs he’s managed and the players he’s been able to coach, he’s nothing short of being a genius,” Walker continued to ManCity.com. “That’s ultimately down to the work ethic he puts into the matches, the training sessions and the detail – we just have to execute the plan.”

Kyle Walker and his Manchester City teammates will look to take another step towards retaining their historic Treble this weekend, as they welcome Newcastle United to the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
