Manchester City have all the makings of a back-to-back Treble-winning team this season, central defender Ruben Dias has explained this week.

City’s highs of last season would always be hugely difficult to match, however as the club enters the business end of their ongoing season, the possibility of a Treble repeat is somewhat in their eyesight.

Manchester City continue to battle with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, taking on both clubs in their next two Premier League games with UEFA Champions League and FA Cup action embedded between.

FC Copenhagen are City’s next opponents in European competition as they hold a 3-1 advantage from the last-16 first-leg, while Newcastle United will visit the Etihad Stadium in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Ruben Dias has this week admitted that while the achievements of last season were ‘beautiful’, he and his Manchester City teammates must go ‘strong and deep again’ in order to claim their Treble back for another campaign.

“Every new year it is a new challenge and every new year we must overcome what we’ve done before,” insisted Ruben Dias.

“Even though what’s done is done and it’s beautiful, we know if we want to do it again we’ve got to go strong and deep again.”

He continued, “We are the same people. We are the same players being treble winners or not, that’s why we became treble winners last season. That’s why we want to win again.”

Manchester City are currently on a staggering run of 19 games unbeaten across all competitions stretching back to mid-December, whilst also winning the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia in the process.

Their most recent contest saw them defeat Manchester United in the 192nd edition of the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon, with a Phil Foden brace and Erling Haaland strike overcoming Marcus Rashford’s first-half opener to win 3-1 at the Etihad.
