Manchester City’s Phil Foden has pointed towards his future career aims after a statement performance against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The England international forward scored a match-changing brace en route to victory this weekend, turning Manchester City’s fortunes around in the second-half after Marcus Rashford’s opener inside 10 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

Foden’s sensational showing in front of England boss Gareth Southgate is just the latest of numerous top-level showings in front of goal for City this season, in what is now his most productive campaign in a senior Etihad shirt.

Speaking after the 3-1 win over Erik ten Hag’s side, Foden admitted that the win ‘means everything’ to him, as a boyhood supporter of Manchester City with a true understanding of all at stake in a local derby.

“I understand what it means for the fans in the derby at the Etihad,” Foden said. “It means everything. To score as well is even better but it was about the win today.”

Foden continued by pointing towards his future personal goals with the club, “That’s my aim. To turn up in the big games, that’s what I want to do and I think this season I’m proving that by putting performances like that in. So yeah I’ll keep working hard.”

Manchester City will be counting on Phil Foden once again next weekend, as the Premier League champions travel to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, knowing that a win would move them two points clear of their title rivals.

The visit to the home of Jurgen Klopp’s side will be the third of five tricky challenges across March, with a meeting against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League next up for the reigning holders of Europe’s premier club competition.
