Premier League icon and Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has made a damning admission concerning the club’s 115 charges issued by the top-flight last year.

Comments from the former Argentine striker come as Manchester City approach the one-year anniversary since the Premier League confirmed their issuing of charges upon the reigning Champions of the division following a long-running investigation.

It was announced in early February 2023 that the league had charged City with more than 100 breaches of its financial rules following a four-year investigation, referring the club to an independent commission over alleged rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

Whilst also accusing Manchester City of not co-operating since the investigation started in December 2018, Etihad Stadium officials said in response that not only were they “surprised” by the charges, but that they are supported by a “body of irrefutable evidence”.

Speaking to Stake on the subject of Manchester City’s 115 Premier League charges, Sergio Aguero exclaimed, “I can say that our achievements as a team, on the field, were won with effort and sportsmanship, fair and square.”

After his exit from Manchester City at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, Aguero was widely recognised as being one of the finest ever footballers to grace England’s top-flight claiming a number of division titles in the process.

After scoring the winning goal against QPR in dramatic fashion to win the Premier League trophy in 2012, Sergio Aguero went on to claim a further four top-flight titles under Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola.

In May 2021, Agüero brought an end to his Manchester City career by agreeing to sign for La Liga giants Barcelona on a two-year contract starting 1 July, with a buy-out clause set at €100 million.
