Manchester City will discover their opponents for the third round of the Emirates FA Cup this weekend, as Pep Guardiola’s side prepare to defend their crown.

The treble winners will seek to retain their Emirates FA Cup crown after lifting the trophy for the first time since 2019 in June, famously beating rivals Manchester United at Wembley Stadium prior to their date in Istanbul.

Ilkay Gundogan’s brace, which included a record-breaking volley just 12 seconds into the clash, helped Manchester City lift the historic trophy as part of a landmark treble, with the Blues also memorably winning the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

The German international midfielder left Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer, alongside Riyad Mahrez, who netted a hat-trick in the semi-final last season against the now-Premier League side Sheffield United.

The Emirates FA Cup is the Sky Blues’ only hope of winning a domestic cup competition this season, after Manchester City were knocked out of the Carabao Cup to Newcastle United in September.
