Manchester City’s post-Cole Palmer transfer plans as re-negotiation forced around Matheus Nunes deal
It’s time for the penultimate edition of our daily transfer round-ups throughout the summer transfer window, as Deadline Day finally arrives for Manchester City.
The final day of the market is likely to bring about several more confirmed deals, and one regarding arrivals at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City are expected to formally announce Matheus Nunes as a new player for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Confirmation of Cole Palmer’s departure for Chelsea is likely to be the only major exit from the first-team squad, whilst several loan deals could also be completed as the 2023/24 season looks to kick into action.
On day 75 of the summer transfer window, here is everything you need to know to be kept right up to date heading into transfer deadline day itself!
Arrivals
Manchester City and Wolves have now reached a formal agreement over the transfer of Matheus Nunes. The final fee is €62 million and no add-ons, plus 10% of any future sale profit going to Wolves. (David Ornstein, The Athletic)
Manchester City were happy to pay more in total for Matheus Nunes in return for a more favourable payment schedule. (Simon Bajkowski)
Manchester City are not expected to return to the transfer market to replace Cole Palmer, while his exit will not block a loan move for James McAtee if the midfielder feels that is the best option. (Simon Bajkowski, Manchester Evening News)
Departures
Cole Palmer has now undergone a Chelsea medical without any issues ahead of formally completing his Manchester City exit. An official announcement is expected on Deadline Day. (Matt Law)
Manchester City have now received their FIRST offer from Barcelona for Joao Cancelo. While a deal had been taken for granted, City had not received any offers prior to today, nor any direct contact from Barcelona. (Pol Ballus)
Southampton are now expected to sign Taylor Harwood-Bellis on loan. (Darren Witcoop)
Sheffield United, Leicester, and Feyenoord are all pushing to sign James McAtee on loan. Nottingham Forest are watching the situation. Any loan arrangement would not include an option to buy. Manchester City ideally want to keep McAtee but recognise he wants minutes and feels his long-term prospects would be best served by another loan. (James Ducker)
Sheffield United are making a final plea to sign James McAtee on loan, hoping to persuade Manchester City that he would benefit from joining them. Wolves asked for McAtee when Matheus Nunes talks were ongoing, while Ajax had an offer kicked back. (Alan Nixon)
Daniel Ogwuru (18) is set to join Norwich City on a permanent deal. (Pete O’Rourke)
ICM Stellar agent, Steven Howson on Oscar Bobb: “There will always be clubs interested in quality young players from Manchester City. But City have a plan with Oscar, they really like him and this season they want to see him develop around the first team.” (VG)
