Manchester City teenager Morgan Rogers is set to sign for Championship side Middlesbrough on a permanent transfer.

The 20 year-old, who signed for the Manchester City academy from West Brom for £4 million in 2017, is set to return to the Sky Bet Championship after spending last season playing in the division on loan.

Rogers joined Blackpool on a short-term loan in January, making 20 appearances and featuring in the Emirates FA Cup for the Tangerines, having spent the previous campaign on a season-long loan at Bournemouth.

The forward has also previously spent time at Lincoln City, where he made 28 appearances and helped the club to the League One Play-Off Final.

Rogers was directly involved in three goals for Blackpool, and will return to the Championship next season, with the Fabrizio Romano reporting that Middlesbrough are set to sign the 20 year-old on a permanent deal.

Michael Carrick’s side finished in the play-off places last season and will be bidding for promotion again this year, after an impressive managerial start from the former Manchester United player at the Riverside.

The young forward has agreed a deal with Middlesbrough and will undergo a medical after paperwork was signed earlier this week.

Rogers will become the third City Football Academy sale of the summer, after Burnley and Southampton agreed to sign James Trafford and Shea Charles, respectively.

Trafford is set to become Burnley’s new goalkeeper in a £19 million deal, after an impressive campaign at Bolton and with the England U21’s at the European Championships.

Meanwhile, Shea Charles is expected to finalise a move to Southampton, with the potential for the teenager’s transfer to rise to £15 million.

The Saints, who will be fighting with Middlesbrough for promotion to the top-flight, also still hold an interest in Carlos Borges.

USMNT and Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough under Carrick, making 42 Championship appearances.
