When is the 2023 FA Community Shield between Manchester City and Arsenal?
Manchester City are set to take on Arsenal in this year’s FA Community Shield – the traditional curtain raiser to a brand new domestic campaign.
Pep Guardiola and his players have once again booked their place in the opening competitive fixture of the new season, after their success in the Premier League season – their third successive English top-flight win.
While Manchester United had the opportunity to face the blue side of the city in the curtain raiser to the 2023/24 season through an FA Cup final win, it was Manchester City who took home that trophy too courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Wembley Stadium.
A brace from club captain Ilkay Gundogan – featuring an opening goal after just 12 seconds in the first-half – means Manchester City will now have to play the runners-up in the Premier League, which was Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Now, as reported by the Evening Standard, Manchester City are due to face Arsenal in this year’s Community Shield showdown at Wembley Stadium on the weekend of August 5/6, with the new Premier League season kicking-off a week later.
However, City could face a further fixture scheduling problem should they secure their first ever Champions League title on June 10, when they take on Inter at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.
Victory in Turkey would then mean Manchester City book a place in the 2023 UEFA Super Cup, with Europa League champions Sevilla awaiting in the Athens clash on August 16 – the same weekend as the Premier League’s opening weekend.
The release of the Premier League fixtures for the 2023/24 season has been confirmed to take place at 09:00 BST on Thursday 15 June.
