Paul Tierney to referee Manchester City vs Manchester United in Emirates FA Cup Final
Paul Tierney will take charge of the 2023 Emirates FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
Manchester City face Manchester United in the first FA Cup Final clash between the two local rivals, as Pep Guardiola’s side continue their pursuit of completing the treble.
City thrashed Manchester United 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium in October but suffered a controversial 2-1 loss at Old Trafford in January.
The Blues have won four of the past six meetings between the two teams across all competitions and were victorious in 2011, when City last faced United at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup.
Manchester City reached the FA Cup Final courtesy of a Riyad Mahrez hat-trick against Sheffield United, while United needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome Brighton in their semi-final.
Ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Wembley Stadium, the Football Association have announced the Match Officials for the 2023 FA Cup Final.
Match Referee
Paul Tierney has been named as the referee for the 2023 Emirates FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Manchester United.
The 42 year-old has taken charge of 33 matches this season, showing 125 yellow cards and three red cards.
Tierney last took charge of Manchester City in February, when the Blues beat Bournemouth 4-1 at the Vitality Stadium.
The referee has never previously officiated a Manchester Derby.
Assistant Referees
Tierney will be accompanied at Wembley Stadium by Assistant Referees Neil Davies and Scott Ledger.
Video Assistant Referees
Overviewing proceedings will be Video Assistant Referee David Coote and Assistant Video Assistant Referee Simon Long.
Fourth Official
Peter Bankes has been named as the Fourth Official.
The official will be overseeing conduct within the two dugouts, and the behaviour of managers Pep Guardiola and Erik ten Hag.
Reserve Assistant Referee
Adrian Holmes has been named as the Reserve Assistant Referee.
