Match Preview: Manchester City vs Real Madrid (Champions League Semi-Final Second-Leg)
Manchester City return to UEFA Champions League action as they take on Real Madrid in the second-leg of a mammoth semi-final encounter.
Over the weekend, City travelled to Goodison Park to take on Everton in search of yet another crucial three points, which could help them extend their gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.
The reigning top-flight Champions would strike first after Riyad Mahrez sent a ball towards Ilkay Gundogan, who scored courtesy of a bit of flair in the build-up, kicking the ball behind him and past the reach of Jordan Pickford.
That advantage would double just minutes later, as Erling Haaland received a cross from the German captain, before heading home and giving Manchester City a hugely important 0-2 lead heading into the interval.
The door on any possible comeback for the hosts would be slammed shut just ten minutes into the second half, as Ilkay Gundogan curled home a sumptuous free-kick past the diving Pickford, and granting his side the three points to put them within one win of claiming yet another Premier League crown.
The Champions League semi-final is up next, as the contest enters its second-leg tied on aggregate following Vinicius Jr first-half strike last week and Kevin De Bruyne’s similarly stunning second-half equaliser.
The winner of Manchester City vs Real Madrid on Wednesday night will secure their spot in the 2023 Champions League final – hosted in Istanbul, Turkey – where Serie A giants Inter await following their win over Milan on Tuesday night.
