Nottingham Forest and England U21’s captain Morgan Gibbs-White has lifted the lid on his friendship with Manchester City’s Phil Foden, with the pair having shared a room together at the U17 World Cup in India in 2017.

Gibbs-White started in a 4-0 thrashing of France’s U21s at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, while Phil Foden missed England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon due to undergoing surgery for appendicitis.

The Manchester City star risks missing crucial matches for the Blues as a result of the operation, with Foden guaranteed to miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool and question marks already surrounding his availability for the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

The pair were both part of England’s World Cup winning U17 squad in 2017, as Foden played a pivotal role in the Three Lions’ success.

Foden, who won the Golden Ball award at the tournament, scored twice in a thrilling final, as England beat Spain 5-2 in Kolkata.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Gibbs-White has reminisced about the tournament triumph from 2017 during an interview with the Daily Mail, and lifted the lid on his friendship with Phil Foden, which sparked ahead of success in India.

“I’m godparent to his kids, They’ve got two beautiful, funny kids,” said the 23 year-old.

“We just had a good connection. I met him at 16, we just got on. Our girlfriends are close. We roomed together quite a bit. He’s always been a nice kid, Phil [Foden]. Unbelievable player.

“He’d play Fortnite until one or two o’clock in the morning every night! Every night. I’d say that if he scored tomorrow then he could stay on it for another couple of hours.”

Since winning the U17 World Cup, Foden has gone on to help City win 11 trophies including four Premier League titles, and has made 205 appearances for the Blues.

The 22 year-old has also won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for a second successive season last year after helping the Sky Blues retain the Premier League title.
