In what is widely regarded as being the most highly-anticipated game of the season, Manchester City take on Arsenal in the Premier League, with just three points separating the two sides ahead of kick-off.

Last time out, City hosted Aston Villa in a match that would prove to be no challenge for the reigning Premier League champions, as they cruised to a 3-1 victory over Unai Emery’s side.

Rodri, Riyad Mahrez, and Ilkay Gundogan all found the back of the net in the first-half, helping put Manchester City into what would turn out to be an unassailable lead, despite somewhat of an onslaught from the visitors during the closing exchanges.

Ilkay Gundogan’s goal in particular in the 39th minute was reminiscent of the strike that gave City the Premier League trophy on the final day of last season against the same opponents, albeit in much more dramatic fashion.

Pep Guardiola’s side however failed to keep a clean sheet once again, as Villa striker Ollie Watkins – who has a proud scoring record against Manchester City – got his side on the scoreboard early in the second half, making the game 3-1.

Wednesday night presents a much more difficult challenge, and perhaps the greatest challenge of the ongoing season, as Manchester City travel to the current Premier League leaders Arsenal, who come into this one off the back of a 1-1 home draw against Brentford.

Leandro Trossard had put his side ahead early in the second half last weekend, before The Bees striker Ivan Toney would score a controversial goal to level the match, with there being plenty of speculation post-match regarding VAR’s failure to call an offside in the build-up.

The showdown between Arsenal and Manchester City could prove to be one of, if not the most important matches of the season for the away team in particular, as victory over Mikel Arteta’s side would move them on top of the table – tied on points, yet ahead on goal difference.

The most highly-anticipated match this season between Arsenal and Manchester City will take place on Wednesday 15th February with kick-off scheduled for 19:30 BST.
