Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano tops the list of Premier League executive director salaries, according to a new report.

Prior to joining Manchester City as part of the new drive from Abu Dhabi United Group to develop the Premier League side into the European giants that they are today, Ferran Soriano was Vice-Chairman and CEO at FC Barcelona from 2003 to 2008, and is often widely credited with playing a major role in the transformation of the Camp Nou side.

Alongside playing a crucial role in matters further away from the football pitch, it is widely known that Soriano negotiated deals with some of football’s most high profile players, including the likes of Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi.

Since moving to Manchester City, the club’s off-field commitments have seen a major upturn, as well as the success of the City Football Group as a global football business – a success which is often credited to the work of Soriano.

Ferran Soriano’s ranking amongst his fellow senior officials at Premier League clubs has been detailed in a new report by The Sports Journal, placing the Manchester City chief in first place for annual salaries in the English top-flight.

According to the report, Soriano takes an annual pay packet of £3.4 million – placing him above his counterparts at the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace.

Annual executive staff pay at Manchester City is also stated to be £1.2 million, with their city rivals United coming in at a close second with £3.1 million for their directors and £1.2 million for executive staff.

According to studies by the Chartered Management Institute and XpertHR, as relayed by The Sports Journal, this is more than ten times the typical CEO remuneration for UK firms.

Manchester City’s off-the-field work is always taking huge strides forward, with the growth and development of the East Manchester region a prime example of the fantastic work that the club’s ownership and board have done in recent years.

Most recently, it was highlighted that the Premier League champions had undertaken studies to expand the Family Stand of the Etihad Stadium – taking the ground’s capacity to in excess of 60,000, and making it eligible for hosting UEFA Champions League finals in the future.
