Former Manchester City executive Omar Berrada is set to imminently begin work at Old Trafford as the new Manchester United CEO.

Berrada, who undertook four roles during his nine-year spell with Manchester City and the City Football Group, held the job of chief football operations officer at the Etihad Stadium prior to departing for Old Trafford in late January.

The former Manchester City COO was named Manchester United CEO by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has made a series of boardroom level appointments since completing a 25% takeover of Manchester United.

Berrada will join the Blues’ local rivals despite playing a major role in Manchester City successfully trumping the Reds in recent years, with the two teams set to meet in successive Emirates FA Cup Finals at Wembley Stadium next month.

The new Manchester United CEO undertook a series of senior roles in east Manchester, including the likes of Senior Vice-President Group Commercial Director and Head of International Business Development.

Berrada has been on gardening leave for a number of months since announcing the shock switch of allegiances, but is expected to imminently begin work as Manchester United’s new chief executive.

Journalist Mike Keegan reports that Berrada will complete his gardening leave and begin work as Manchester United’s new CEO in mid-July, ahead of the 2024/25 campaign which begins in August.

Upon leaving Manchester City in January, a club statement said: “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that Omar Berrada has resigned from his role as chief football operations officer at City Football Group.

“The club understands his decision to look for a new challenge and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes.”
