Manchester City defender reveals ‘option’ of joining Real Madrid – Contracted until 2025
The possibility of joining La Liga giants Real Madrid is an ‘option’ for Manchester City and Brazil international defender Yan Couto, the player himself has admitted.
The 21-year-old is coming towards the end of yet another starring season on-loan away from the Etihad Stadium, having excelled with the high-flying Girona side sitting pretty towards the top of the La Liga table.
Having registered 33 appearances for Girona in both La Liga and Copa del Rey action so far this season, Yan Couto has recorded a commendable two goals and eight assists for the Catalan club – a record that has certainly attracted interest from more senior clubs.
While Manchester City will no doubt be watching Couto’s development with excitement ahead of a summer transfer window when further decisions will have to be made, other clubs could come into the player’s thinking.
Speaking in a recent interview with Radio Catalunya, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Yan Couto has admitted that the idea of playing for Los Blancos is an ‘option’ for him, should Real Madrid turn their interest into concrete conversations.
“Playing for Madrid is an option if they are interested, I’m not going to lie,” Yan Couto admitted, before commenting on his ultimate ‘dream’ of playing for Manchester City, and likely working under Pep Guardiola.
Couto continued, “I’m a Manchester City player, I have a contract there and it’s my dream to play for City.”
Yan Couto’s progress with Girona so far this season has earned him his first and subsequent senior Brazil international caps this season, while Pep Guardiola will no doubt be intrigued by the progress made.
Manchester City are highly likely to present Couto with the opportunity to impress Guardiola and coaching staff during the summer pre-season tour in the United States, which could also feature his current Girona teammate Savio.
Couto’s fellow Brazil international has reached an agreement with Manchester City alongside his parent club ESTAC Troyes over a summer deal that will see the Premier League champions take on the responsibilities of developing the winger.
