Officials from Manchester City have made contact with the agent of highly-rated Las Palmas defender Mika Marmol, according to reports from Spain this week.

The Premier League champions appear to be, once again, at the very forefront of ensuring that themselves and the wider City Football Group recruit the finest up and coming talents in the global game, with a view towards profit or developing towards the Etihad Stadium.

The latest developments come a few weeks after it was confirmed that Manchester City had reached a total agreement with ESTAC Troyes over the transfer of highly-rated Brazilian winger Savio – who has been excelling whilst on loan at Girona.

The Catalan club, who have been flying towards the summit of the La Liga table, appear to be at the centre of a new La Liga transfer that could involve Manchester City and their investment in a highly-rated defender from the division.

That is according to the information of Spanish outlet Marca, as translated and relayed by Football Espana, who report that City have now contacted agent Jose Maria Orobitg over Mika Marmol, to find out about the player’s plans and Las Palmas’ demands for the 22-year-old.

The report goes on to suggest that should the defender make the move to Manchester City or any other club for that matter, then the Canary Islanders may ask for Marmol back on loan next season.

Having developed through Barcelona’s youth academy between 2006 and 2022, Marmol ultimately left the La Masia operation for Segunda Division side FC Andorra in August 2022, before being picked up by UD Las Palmas just one year later.

Should Manchester City sign Marmol, it is highly likely that their preference would be to send the 22-year-old out on loan to Girona for the upcoming campaign, with Michel Sanchez’s side still having the possibility of European football given their achievements this season.

Girona will be keen to work closely with Manchester City for that possibility by recruiting some of the Premier League champions’ best talents, including perhaps the retention of Brazil international full-back Yan Couto.
