Manchester City ‘take action’ to sign Fenerbahçe defender Ferdi Kadıoğlu
A new report from Turkey has indicated that Manchester City have taken steps towards signing 24-year-old versatile defensive option Ferdi Kadıoğlu.
Despite having been born in the Netherlands, rising through the NEC Nijmegen youth ranks, and playing for the Dutch national side at youth level from under-16s to under-21s, Kadioglu is a Turkish international player following a decision made in 2022.
Acting as a mainstay in the set-up seen by Fenerbahce in their successful Turkish Super Lig campaign thus far, Ferdi Kadıoğlu has registered a total of 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting a further three in the process.
It is his stellar performances in driving his club towards the top of Turkey’s premier division that is now pulling in potential suitors from across the European game, and namely Manchester City, if reports from national media are to be believed.
According to the information of Turkish media outlet Fotomac, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, the Premier League champions have now ‘taken action’ to sign Fenerbahce’s 24-year-old, Ferdi Kadıoğlu.
The defender – who is believed to be having a very good season with the Turkish side – is also attracting interest from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund alongside claims concerning Manchester City.
At present there is now word on just how much Manchester City would be willing to pay for the player, although the report states that Kadıoğlu’s market value is €20 million, while he is currently protected by a contract with his current club until 2028.
It is also unknown what Manchester City’s intentions are for the player, although the report goes as far as to say that Pep Guardiola himself wants to see the defender in his team ‘in the new season’.
Manchester City’s most recent recruit from the Turkish game came in July 2015, when the current Premier League champions announced the signing of Enes Unal in a reported £2 million deal from Bursaspor.
Following loan deals with Genk, NAC Breda, and FC Twente during his time contracted to Manchester City, a permanent move to Spanish side Villarreal was sealed in 2017, before his most successful move came with Getafe.
Unal is now plying his trade in England’s Championship division, having joined AFC Bournemouth during the most recent January transfer window on an initial loan deal with the obligation to make the move permanent upon the meeting of certain conditions.
