Manchester City have received arguably their clearest sign yet of total commitment from Ruben Dias with regards to his future with the football club.

The Portugal international centre-back has been integral to Manchester City’s success since his arrival at the club from SL Benfica during the early stages of the 2020/21 campaign in a deal worth an initial €68 million.

Starring in several different centre-back pairings, but most often known for a memorable partnership forged with John Stones, Ruben Dias has claimed the Premier League title in every single season with Manchester City thus far, alongside several other major honours.

But with conversations beginning to grow over whether his compatriot Bernardo Silva will seek an exit in the coming months once again, the 26-year-old defender has offered what could be the clearest indication yet that he has no eyes on anywhere but Manchester City.

Speaking during a new interview with The National, Dias presented himself with the dilemma of whether he would rather be at a club with an ideal cultural and environmental surrounding, or a team that consistently wins and remains at the top of the sport.

“You could be in the most beautiful place in the world but if you are at work and not happy then you are not happy,” Ruben Dias explained.

“Imagine whatever you like: sea, sun, snow, whatever. We are in Manchester. It has its bad things and its good things like any other place but mostly we are happy at work and even though we’ve won a lot we know we can win again.”

He continued, “You ask me where I would rather be? In a place that I can have whatever specific thing I like in terms of living outside work or would rather be in the place that will allow me to keep on winning; I choose the place I can keep on winning.”

Despite a relatively slow start with Manchester City this season when compared to his usual high standards, Ruben Dias has slowly established himself once again as the club’s best central defenders, racking up 29 appearances across all competitions.

Dias’ place in Manchester City’s leadership group is also further evidence of his importance to the first-team set-up, known for his words of encouragement and motivation to Pep Guardiola’s squads ahead of crunch fixtures.

If Manchester City are to remain at the very top of the European game over the course of the coming seasons, then Ruben Dias will almost certainly have a pivotal role to play as he further establishes himself as an indispensable figure in the Etihad club’s on-field operation.
