Manchester City’s latest recruit from South America has been tipped for an exit from the club just 26 minutes after being announced as their latest signing.

The Premier League champions confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old attacking midfielder on a contract running until the summer of 2028, revealing that the highly-rated Argentina youth international will remain on loan at his current club for the time being.

A statement from the Etihad Stadium read on Thursday, “Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentinian midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. The 18-year-old has signed a contract until June 2028 but will remain at River before moving to the Etihad Stadium in January next year.”

However, fresh details emerging from Spain have now suggested that the player will in fact move within the City Football Group upon the conclusion of his loan deal in Argentina, just 26 minutes after the release of Manchester City’s official club statement.

That is according to the information of Què T’hi Jugues’ Nil Solà, who reports that the idea within Manchester City and the wider City Football Group is that Claudio Echeverri will become a Girona player next season, following the conclusion of his initial loan at River Plate.

At present it remains unknown what sort of agreement Girona would have with Manchester City, however the recent trend has been for players to leave the Premier League giants for the current La Liga high-flyers on a loan agreement.

City officials will then keep a watchful eye on their progress with Girona, as seen in the case of full-back talent Yan Couto, who subsequently earned himself his first senior Brazil cap last Autumn as a result of his fine performances in Spain.

Claudio Echeverri joins a long list of players joining Manchester City’s hugely successful project in recent years, following in the footsteps of fellow Argentine talents Julian Alvarez and Maximo Perrone – who is currently on loan at UD Las Palmas.
