The representatives of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips have outlined their stance on the player’s Etihad Stadium future ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 27 year-old made the switch to Manchester City from Leeds United last summer, in a deal that was reported to be worth around £42 million for a player that was held in high-regard across the division and at international level.

While the ongoing campaign may not have gone how Kalvin Phillips will have wanted, more a multitude of reasons including injury, a Premier League title and Emirates FA Cup trophy has been added to his name with a Champions League final still to come.

As Rodri looks to hold down the defensive midfield position for the long-term future, as John Stones and Rico Lewis act as inverted full-backs at times, the upcoming summer transfer window has thrown the future of Kalvin Phillips into uncertainty.

Despite frustrations over game time and a reoccurring shoulder problem that forced the midfielder to undergo surgery prior to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a new update on Phillips’ future will have repercussions on a number of clubs including Manchester City.

According to the information of The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, the representatives of Kalvin Phillips have informed potential suitors that the England international midfielder intends to stay at Manchester City beyond this season.

It is explained that the former Leeds United man does not want to give up on the opportunity at Manchester City, and instead wants to challenge himself to succeed under Pep Guardiola and fight for a bigger role next season.

News of Phillips’ stance has left one Premier League club ‘frustrated’ ahead of the summer window, with Newcastle United having reportedly identified the City midfielder as a target several weeks ago, believing that he could be made available for transfer.

Nevertheless, The Telegraph explain that the situation could still change, if Manchester City decide they want to move the player on, with Newcastle having asked to be kept informed of any developments.

Should that happen, Eddie Howe’s side are unlikely to be the only club interested in Phillips, with West Ham United also known to be admirers of the player and potentially on the search for a replacement for the expected departure of Declan Rice.

There remains the possibility that Manchester City could lose two central midfield mainstays this summer, with Ilkay Gundogan out of contract and Bernardo Silva still questioning whether his longer-term club future lies in the north-west of England.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are expected to formalise interest in the Portugal international across the course of the coming weeks, while Barcelona and AC Milan watch the situation concerning Gundogan unfold.
