Ferran Soriano has hit back at accusations from Premier League rivals regarding Manchester City’s transfer spending.

Manchester City secured their fifth Premier League title in six years earlier this month, lifting the trophy for a third consecutive season after successfully seeing off rivals Arsenal.

The Blues lifted the Premier League trophy following a 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium, having retained their crown with three matches to spare.

City are now in the hunt to complete a potential treble, hoping that the FA Cup and Champions League will accompany the Premier League in the trophy cabinet.

Manchester City face Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on Saturday in the first Manchester derby FA Cup Final, and then travel to Istanbul to play Inter Milan in the Champions League Final.

Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to become the first team since Manchester United in 1999 to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same season.

Having continued to enjoy prolonged success, Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has hit back at critics of the club’s spending in an interview with Movistar.

“Look, you only have to look at the investment in players in England in the last year, three years, five years, we are never the club spending the most on players.

“There are many other clubs investing more money than us – Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal.

“Saying that we’ve spent a lot of money and we won because of that is just not true.”

City made a series of impressive signings last summer, adding Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Manuel Akanji, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega.

Chelsea, who finished 12th meanwhile, have spent £600 million over the past two transfer windows.

Manchester City were rocked with a swathe of charges for alleged financial breaches in February relating to matters over an extended period between 2009 and 2018.

However, the club have maintained their innocence, saying: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
