Kalvin Phillips has his heart set on staying at Manchester City into next season and fighting for a starting place in Pep Guardiola’s side, as per a new report.

The 27-year-old joined the Premier League champions from Leeds United for £45 million last summer to strengthen competition in midfield following the departure of club veteran Fernandinho.

However, a series of injuries and lack of minutes have marred Phillips’ debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, raising questions over the Yorkshireman’s future in Manchester amid interest from the likes of West Ham.

There have been prior indications that Manchester City have not ruled out an exit for the England international as they look to bolster their midfield options in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund sensation Jude Bellingham has been touted to be high up on Manchester City’s wishlist but recent reports are hinting at a likely switch to Real Madrid for the teenager.

Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount have also been mentioned as potential candidates as City await a decision on the respective futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva beyond the ongoing campaign.

With City expected to be in the market for at least a few midfield signings, it remains to be seen what the coming months hold for Kalvin Phillips and his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

As per Alex Crook writing for talkSPORT, Phillips is determined to stay at Manchester City and battle for a place in Guardiola’s starting XI.

The Leeds-born midfielder believes he can turn around his fortunes after an underwhelming first season in Manchester, clocking just 405 minutes of first-team football over 17 appearances, with just 103 minutes coming in the Premier League.

Manchester City remain on course to pull off a treble this season after returning to the top of the league table courtesy of a 3-0 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium in midweek.

The Blues are set to face off against holders Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final in the coming weeks before a derby clash against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.

With the games coming thick and fast for the Premier League champions, Guardiola will be wary of handing ample rest to Rodri and that is where Phillips could come in to leave an impression on the Manchester City head coach.
