Video: Joao Cancelo arrives in Munich ahead of Bayern loan from Manchester City
Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has been spotted in Munich ahead of completing his loan move to Bayern for the remainder of the season.
The 28 year-old full-back is set to join Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season, in a deal that is expected to include a significant buy-option for the Bundesliga club, should they wish to make the Portugal international’s stay permanent.
Cancelo has seen his game time at Manchester City significantly reduced since returning to the club following the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with Pep Guardiola opting to use Nathan Ake at left-back and 18 year-old Rico Lewis at right-back for most matches.
That has seen the former Juventus and Valencia star demand a move away from the Etihad Stadium as he became unhappy with his minutes – despite playing more than any other defender at the football club up until this point of the season.
As a deal with Bayern Munich moves ever closer to completion, Joao Cancelo has now arrived in Munich to complete his deal, with medical tests scheduled for Monday evening and contracts with the German giants prepared to be signed.
SPORT1 and Sky in Germany have both captured the first shots of the Manchester City defender arriving in the German city, while the rest of Pep Guardiola’s squad enjoy a period of time off before focussing on the remainder of the season.
Manchester City still have hopes of winning three trophies this season, as progression past Arsenal in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup accompanies the challenge of securing another Premier League crown and their first ever Champions League title.
No further additions are expected in Pep Guardiola’s squad during the remainder of the January transfer window, but departures on loan from the City academy squad are still anticipated, should the right opportunities emerge.
