Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided a key update on the fitness of Phil Foden, after the Englishman missed Sunday’s 3-0 win over Wolves with a foot injury.

City were without Foden for last weekend’s win over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium, as Erling Haaland scored his fourth hat-trick for the club in a key 3-0 victory.

The 22 year-old hasn’t featured for the Sky Blues since the 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this month, when Foden was replaced midway through the second half by Jack Grealish.

Foden, who has scored just one goal in his last seven City appearances, has made just 18 starts for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season.

The England international has struggled with foot injuries in the past, and missed Sunday’s win over Wolves as result of the problem, according to Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola revealed that the forward sustained the injury in the Derby defeat, saying: “He jumped with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and had a problem with his foot.

“It has been a bit up and down and is a little bit uncomfortable, so we decided with the doctors to rest it. We’ll see if he arrives against Arsenal.”

Manchester City host the Gunners in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round on Friday night, as the Premier League’s top two teams prepare to meet for the first time this season.

Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup meeting, Guardiola was unable to confirm whether the 22 year-old would be in contention to play, but revealed that Foden was “getting better.”

“He’s getting better. We train this afternoon. Everyone else is good,” said the Catalan.
