Manchester City have reportedly monitored the performances and development of Villarreal goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen amid ongoing uncertainty over Stefan Ortega.

Pep Guardiola’s German shot-stopper has predominantly acted as back-up to Ederson throughout his time with Manchester City thus far, but has performed to the highest standards when called upon.

In recent weeks, Ortega has stood in for his Brazilian colleague while Ederson recovered from a thigh injury sustained in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool. Having largely performed to a faultless high-standard, Ederson came back in on Saturday afternoon against Luton.

Many believe that given the fact that it has been proven that Ederson remains irreplaceable in goal for Manchester City, Stefan Ortega will leave the club in the summer in search of a number one place elsewhere in the European game.

Should that happen, Manchester City will be forced to enter the transfer market to find yet another back-up option following the departure of Zack Steffen to Major League Soccer in the recent January market.

According to the information of HITC’s Graeme Bailey, Manchester City have been monitoring developments concerning 22-year-old goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, alongside Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

The trio of title-challenging sides are not alone within the English top-flight either, with the report also tying Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Danish goalkeeper, such are his level of performances in recent months.

Jorgensen has recorded a total of 31 appearances across La Liga and Europa League competition for Villarreal this season, conceding a total of 54 goals and keeping just four clean sheets in the process.

The Danish international has been with Villarreal since 2017, having joined the club at youth academy level, and has also seen an international allegiance switch having snubbed Sweden following representation at under-16 and under-17 level.
