Those within Manchester City are certainly not filled with optimism when it comes to their hopes of signing Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, a report has revealed.

Etihad Stadium officials are working towards yet another all-important summer transfer window for the football club, in what could be the final reconstruction of a Pep Guardiola squad with the Catalan’s current contract running until the summer of 2025.

Midfield roles within the Manchester City line-up are expected to be an area to address, with uncertainty looming over a number of players including Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Kalvin Phillips.

The latter pair have a much greater chance of leaving the Etihad this summer than De Bruyne, however it is widely believed that Manchester City are preparing for all possibilities and as such, have an expansive shortlist of players to explore.

However, one such name is perhaps not worth getting too excited about just yet, with a new report detailing the pessimistic approach being taken by Manchester City towards a high-profile name within the German game.

According to the information of The Athletic, Manchester City have taken a look at Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala as part of their wider summer planning, and specifically their focus on central midfield roles.

With Musiala’s current Allianz Arena contract expiring in 2026, a number of other major clubs across Europe are interested, alongside Manchester City.

However, according to The Athletic’s latest report, the reigning Premier League champions believe Jamal Musiala is not for sale, and the current expectation from within the Etihad Stadium is that the German international will sign a new deal with Bayern Munich.

Elsewhere concerning Bayern Munich and Manchester City, The Athletic also report that Musiala’s teammate at the Bavarian club Joshua Kimmich is also on the transfer radar of those at the Etihad, with his existing contract set to expire in the summer of 2025.

Lucas Paqueta is another profile of player that Manchester City remain very keen on as the summer market approaches, with the West Ham and Brazil international having been admired by the Premier League giants for several years.

A move to the Etihad Stadium was likely to have come to fruition last summer was it not for the Football Association’s ongoing investigation into the midfielder for alleged breaches of gambling rules.

However, City have retained their interest from last summer and are likely to activate the player’s £85 million release clause if necessary this summer, should the midfielder be cleared of all alleged FA rule breaches.
