Manchester City are growing in confidence surrounding a summer move for Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala after the German international rejected a new contract.

Pep Guardiola’s side are widely reported to be planning further midfield additions ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with a number of players linked with moves to the Etihad Stadium, including Bayern Munich pair Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala.

Both midfielder’s have fallen out of favour at the Allianz Arena and have been subject to exit links, with Manchester City admirers of both the 29-year-old and 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Sky Blues added both Mathues Nunes and Mateo Kovacic last summer following the exit of former club captain Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona, although a long-term injury to Kevin De Bruyne forced striker Julian Alvarez to drop into a less advanced position.

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta, who has an £85 million release clause this summer, has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, with Etihad chiefs interested in renewing interest in the Brazilian subject to the outcome of an FA investigation.

Manchester City could be set for a rethink of their transfer plans however, after long-term target Musiala rejected a new contract extension offer from Bayer Munich, fuelling talk of a summer exit.

The Mirror claim that both City and Liverpool have been placed on ‘red alert’ following news that the German international has turned down a fresh long-term deal in Bavaria.

The 21-year-old has been directly involved in 10 goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, as well as three direct goal involvements in six UEFA Champions League showings.

Manchester City are claimed to be ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the midfielder this summer, with the player expected to cost around £80 million, according to the Mirror.

Musiala, who’s youth career involved time at both Southampton and Chelsea, is set to represent Germany at their home European Championship this summer, with the tournament starting on Friday 14th June.

The midfielder’s future could be resolved before or after the tournament, with a potential battle from City, Liverpool and former club Chelsea for the Bayern Munich starlet’s signature.
