Manchester City have confirmed Scott Carson has signed a new contract extension with the football club, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2024.

Having initially joined City on loan in 2019 until the end of the 2020/21 season, the now 37 year-old completed a permanent switch to Pep Guardiola’s squad on a free transfer upon the expiry of his Derby County deal in 2021.

The 2023/24 season will mark Scott Carson’s 20th campaign as a professional footballer, with Manchester City securing his services after a commendable time with the football club so far.

The former England international made his debut for Manchester City in May 2021, as part of a dramatic victory over Newcastle United, before making a second appearance in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Sporting CP last season.

Speaking to ManCity.com upon signing his new deal, Carson said, “I’m excited to be staying at City for the 2023/24 season. I love working with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor and our incredible players every day. Hopefully I can help all of our goalkeepers be at their best.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain continued, “Scott is a real asset to our squad and enjoys a close working relationship with the goalkeepers and coaches. We’re very happy he has signed a contract extension.

“I look forward to seeing him support his team-mates and train well to ensure he is ready to perform on the pitch when called upon.”

Carson is expected to continue as Manchester City’s third choice goalkeeper next season, with Stefan Ortega acting as the back-up option to first-choice mainstay Ederson between the sticks.
