The pull of Manchester City’s academy system is set to prove itself once again, with the Premier League champions closing in on one of England’s finest young forwards.

It has been yet another outstanding season for Manchester City’s youth ranks in the Premier League and their development competitions, with a clean sweep once again secured by the Blues across age groups.

So far this season, Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad secured yet another Premier League 2 title, while the under-18s squad won the under-18 Premier League North group to set up a national final with Champions of the South West Ham.

Elsewhere, Manchester City’s under-16 squad also won the under-16 Premier League Cup at the Academy Stadium – which usually plays host to the more senior academy set-ups, as well as the Manchester City Women’s team.

City’s ever-present success on a silverware front is a direct bi-product of the attention to detail that goes into recruitment, and the constant hunt to remain ahead of competitors when it comes to securing talents early in their careers.

This trend now looks set to continue, as Manchester City move closer to signing two of England youth international’s finest young talents, according to recent reports.

This is as per the information of FootballTransfers’ Jacque Talbot, who reports that Manchester City are now close to signing Reading Youth forward Luca Fletcher and AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Spike Brits.

The 15 year-old duo both represent England at under-16 level and while both players are on the verge of a move to the Etihad Stadium, the report details that it remains unclear as to ‘when the finalities of both deals will be ironed out’.

Centre-forward and wide forward Luca Fletcher is also a client of multinational agency Roc Nation, and has registered an impressive 20+ goals for Reading Youth so far this season, in addition to his four goals in four games for England.

As for Spike Brits, the rising shot-stopper is understood to be considered by many as ‘the next goalkeeping gem’ to emerge in this country, with bitter rivals Manchester United claimed to be in the running for the player back in February. West Ham on the other hand were also linked with a move for Luca Fletcher.

Ultimately, the prestige and pull of Manchester City’s hugely successful academy system has proven to be the difference once again, as officials within the Etihad Stadium look to maintain a constant conveyor belt of impressive young talent throughout the years.
