From Jack Gaughan: Manchester City’s immediate plans for incoming winger Savio
Manchester City’s immediate plans for incoming Brazil international winger Savio have been detailed in a new report ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
It is widely understood that the Premier League champions have agreed a deal with fellow City Football Group side ESTAC Troyes, following the 20-year-old’s outstanding individual campaign with sister club Girona.
Such has been the high standard of Savio’s outings across competitions but largely in La Liga that the forward also earned himself his first senior Brazil cap, making a debut for the South American nation in a recent friendly with England.
While Manchester City fans are rightly excited by the prospect of Savio opting to have his future handled by Etihad Stadium officials, there does remain some uncertainty over whether the winger will debut in Sky Blue next season.
According to the information of Jack Gaughan, writing in the latest edition of MailSport’s Man City Notebook, highly-rated incoming attacking talent Savio is expected to join Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States in July.
It is explained that his attendance with Pep Guardiola’s side will then enable first-team Manchester City staff to ‘take a closer look’ at his capabilities, ultimately before a decision can be made for the forthcoming 2024/25 season.
Prior to that moment, Manchester City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain will be able to offer coaching staff an ‘additional insight’ before Savio’s arrival, according to the report, with the Etihad chief continuing to ‘make checks’ on Girona’s progress in recent weeks.
Similar to the situation pending for Savio, Manchester City are also set to make a decision on highly-rated right-back talent Yan Couto, who has spent the ongoing season on loan with Girona and starring alongside his now-senior international teammate.
Given the impressive standards set by Girona so far this season, as they find themselves towards the top of La Liga, Manchester City make consider sending both Couto and Savio back to Catalonia for another campaign.
City Group officials are understood to respect the coaching abilities and philosophy of manager Míchel Sanchez, and would likely entrust the Girona coach with developing both players at a crucial phase is their young respective careers.
