Premier League champions Manchester City are expected to demand a significant portion of their original outlay in any transfer talks for Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The Englishman is currently on loan at West Ham United having suffered a number of difficulties during his time at Manchester City, with a move to the London Stadium deemed as the best move to increase hopes of a place at the upcoming European Championships.

Life under David Moyes has been difficult since Phillips made the switch south during the most-recent January transfer window, with performances well under par and individual errors costing the Hammers crucial points in their chase for European football places.

A return to Manchester City and into the plans of manager Pep Guardiola appears to be far from a possibility in the coming summer, and as such Etihad Stadium officials already appear to have planned out their asking price for the out-of-favour defensive midfielder.

That is according to the information of MailSport’s Sami Mokbel, who reports that the current ‘indications’ are that Manchester City will put Kalvin Phillips up for permanent sale during the upcoming summer transfer window.

It is detailed that one ‘well placed source’ has told the newspaper that City transfer bosses want to recoup £30 million for Kalvin Phillips, having originally invested an initial £42 million in the former Leeds United man in 2022.

In terms of replacements, Manchester City are likely to scour the transfer market for potential recruits in the defensive midfield role, searching for a player capable of sufficiently backing-up mainstay option Rodri over the course of a season.

The Spain international has been absent for a number of contests during the ongoing campaign through suspension, with City losing all such fixtures across multiple competitions including defeats to Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

One name that Manchester City could look to explore in the upcoming summer market is Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, with the Germany international expected to be available at the right price as he seeks a fresh opportunity at the top-level of the game.
