Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez was honored in his hometown following Argentina’s World Cup triumph.

Manchester City had no shortage of players representing the club at the World Cup in Qatar, with 16 first-team players being given spots across nine different countries.

One of those players was Julian Alvarez, who played an integral role for Argentina, making seven appearances.

His campaign was nothing short of spectacular, grabbing meaningful goals in the group stage against Mexico and the round of 16 against Australia.

Perhaps Alvarez’s biggest feat in the tournament was the brace he scored against Croatia, which would help send his nation through to their first World Cup final since 2014.

Alvarez’s four-goal trip saw the 22 year-old share third place with France’s Olivier Giroud for total goals at the tournament, soaring over players such as Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, and Brazilian superstar Neymar.

For his efforts on the path to Argentina’s first World Cup trophy in over 36 years, Alvarez has been honoured in his hometown of Calchin, as first reported by Agencia Telam.

As part of a celebratory ceremony, the Mayor of the town labeled the Manchester City forward as an ‘illustrious citizen’.

Parades celebrating the country’s triumphant victory over defending champions France broke out all over the nation in wake of the dramatic penalty shoot-out win last Sunday.

Calchin was no different, with Alvarez being the main star of the show at the celebrations.

No timetable for the Argentinian’s return to Manchester has been announced, with Alvarez not in attendance for the Blues’ 3-2 win over Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
