Eight matches Ruben Dias could now miss for Manchester City due to injury
Manchester City face the prospect of being without centre-back Ruben Dias for potentially eight matches, after the Portugal international suffered an injury at the World Cup.
Dias, who made four appearances for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar, is facing up to a month on the sidelines after suffering a thigh/hamstring injury in the Middle East.
Portugal were sensationally dumped out of the competition at the quarter-final stages by Morocco, with three City players representing the European nation at the tournament.
The 25 year-old has been key to Manchester City since signing from Benfica in September 2020, making 101 starts and winning two Premier League titles.
Pep Guardiola now faces the prospect of being without Dias for up to a month, with Manchester City facing a challenging schedule as they seek to overturn a five point deficit at the top of the table.
Having missed Thursday’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Liverpool, the defender risks being sidelined for a further eight matches over the course of the next month.
City travel to Leeds United on Wednesday before hosting Everton at the Etihad Stadium on New Year’s Eve.
The Sky Blues then face Chelsea twice in the Premier League and FA Cup, before crucial matches against Manchester United and Spurs.
Guardiola’s side are also due to play Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on the week commencing January 9th.
