Phil Foden has set himself clear ambitions of ending the ongoing Premier League season as one of the division’s standout players across the course of the campaign.
The England international is currently on an inspired run of form, playing an integral role in the centre of the park for Manchester City, whilst also offering goals and assists in abundance for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Across Phil Foden’s 35 appearances in all competitions, the Stockport-born forward has provided 14 goals and nine assists, with eight of such strikes and seven assists coming in the Premier League alone.
But Foden’s fine form and improved figures in the Premier League are part of a wider ambition from the player to move into the elite figures within England’s top-flight, alongside arguably the likes of his City teammates in Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.
Speaking to TNT Sports in a recent interview, Phil Foden has made it very clear that amid stand-out performances for the Premier League champions in recent weeks, it is all part of a wider plan to establish himself as one of the league’s top performers.
“I want to be one of the best players in the Premier League this season,” Foden admitted. “I think the role that I’ve changed into recently now is helping me because not only do you see a lot more of the ball, but you can do a lot more things.
He continued, “For me, I want to try and be the main man that the team looks to create things – goals and assists. I want a very good season of doing that and try to win something so my motivation is always that from the start of the season.”
Phil Foden also realises that there is now an expectation from him to step up and perform in the biggest games for Manchester City. However, the 23-year-old is a firm believer in himself and his abilities to excel and thrive under pressure.
“You have to step up in big games, there’s always going to be pressure on games,” Foden said. “I think I thrive off that, I love pressure and I think I play better with pressure.”
Phil Foden is part of the Manchester City squad that has travelled to Copenhagen this week, as the reigning European champions take a break from their domestic routines to take on the side from the Danish capital in the UEFA Champions League last-16 first-leg.
