Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been recognised by the Premier League for his side’s fine performances in the opening month of the new calendar year.

Following victory in February, City currently find themselves just two points off top spot and current league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand coming at home to Brentford in the next two weeks.

However, the bright start to the new month was built off the back of 100 per cent success in January, with Manchester City winning both of their two clashes away to Newcastle United and at home to Brentford.

A dramatic 2-3 win away at St James’ Park, inspired by a staggering Kevin De Bruyne individual performance through a goal and an assist from the Belgian, set the club on their way for a further victory later in the month.

That came against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley at the Etihad Stadium, with a Julian Alvarez brace and a Rodrigo strike just 26 seconds into the second-half ensuring that there would be no shock from the Premier League newcomers.

As Manchester City look to intensify their hunt for a fourth successive Premier League trophy, their results in January have seen Pep Guardiola nominated for the English top-flight’s Manager of the Month award.

Premier League Manager of the Month, January nominees:

  • Pep Guardiola, Manchester City
  • Mikel Arteta, Arsenal
  • Rob Edwards, Luton Town
  • Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool

Pep Guardiola currently finds himself ranked in third for the most Premier League Manager of the Month awards during his time in England with Manchester City, having been recipient of the accolade on 11 previous occasions.

Only Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have won the Premier League’s Managerial prize more times than City’s legendary boss, with the Frenchman and Scotsman claiming the award 15 and 27 times respectively.
