Manchester City keen on 16-year-old with SEVEN Championship appearances – Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United all interested

Manchester City could face an intense transfer battle for one of the Championship’s most excited up and coming prospects, a new report has revealed.

It is the latest name to emerge in Manchester City’s continuous hunt for the next breakthrough names in the global game, following on from a number of high-profile youth signings over the last couple of weeks.

City most recently secured the services of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate in a deal understood to be worth an initial £12.5 million, with the Argentina youth international remaining in South America on loan until the end of the calendar year.

Girona’s loan star Savio is also expected to become a Manchester City player this summer, with the Premier League champions reaching an agreement with fellow City Group club ESTAC Troyes over a deal that some are reporting to be worth €30 million.

However, City’s latest pursuit is much closer to home, and draws their attention to talent from the north-east and Sunderland’s exciting 16-year-old Chris Rigg, who is simultaneously attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs with his performances in midfield.

That is according to the information of the Sunderland Echo this week, who report that Manchester City are keen on the talents of Chris Rigg, alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Rigg – despite his age – has made a number of senior appearances for Sunderland already this season, notably appearing seven times in Championship matches for the club and scoring his first senior goal at that level as part of a 5-0 win over Southampton last September.

A further senior goal game in the EFL Cup, striking against Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the competition, despite the squad overall falling short courtesy of a penalty shoot-out defeat.
