Nathan Ake provides fresh insight into Manchester City’s summer signings
Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has offered a fresh insight into the club’s summer signings of the 2023 window and exactly what that has brought to the side.
The summer market brought about plenty of change to a Manchester City side that were fresh off the back of claiming a historic Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League treble triumph.
Following high-profile outgoings that included Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte swapping European football for Saudi Arabia’s millions, and Ilkay Gundogan’s free transfer move to FC Barcelona, City officials made several signings of their own.
Mateo Kovacic’s move from Chelsea early in the window was followed up by the arrival of Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku, and a deadline day arrival for Matheus Nunes from fellow Premier League outfit Wolves.
Speaking to ManCity.com this week, Nathan Ake has admitted that there is a never-fading desire to win trophies at Manchester City, even despite the high-profile exits from the first-team squad last summer.
“Our hunger and desire to win never stops,” Ake told the official club website. “Those moments where we lifted the five trophies last year are special and once you do it once, you want to do it again and again.”
Ake continued by making reference towards the changes made in the last summer transfer window, and how the club’s new signings have embraced the club’s winning mentality and now share a common goal on the trophies front.
“We lost a few players in the summer but the new lads that have come in have added to that hunger,” he continued. “They are desperate to achieve their own success with us and that contributes to us being a winning side. That mentality of wanting to be the best never stops.”
Nathan Ake and his Manchester City teammates have already managed to claim two trophies this season, following on from their Treble success with victory in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
February also marks a significant moment in the club’s pursuit of further silverware, as they not only continue their pursuit of an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League crown, but embark on an FA Cup fifth round and UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
