Manchester City are looking into the possibility of signing one of La Liga’s breakthrough talents this summer, viewing the player as a threat from the wings.

The latest information comes fresh off the back of an extremely quiet January transfer window for the Etihad Stadium club, with very little in the way of arrivals or major departures aside from Kalvin Phillips’ loan move to West Ham United.

City did however finalise an agreement for River Plate youngster Claudio Echeverri, but supporters are not expected to see the Argentine any time soon with him remaining in South America on loan until next winter.

However, talk is starting to intensify with a view towards the summer market, when Manchester City are usually far more active with their first-team recruitment largely due to other clubs being more willing to negotiate terms.

That forward-planning has led Etihad officials to La Liga, and a club that they have plenty of affiliation with due to their fellow City Football Group connection, with Girona’s on loan star Savio from ESTAC Troyes emerging as a candidate to sign in the coming months.

According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, as part of a wide-ranging column assessing the Premier League champions’ pending transfer business, Manchester City are ‘looking into the possibility’ of making a move for Savio happen.

While it is further detailed that the 19-year-old has played mainly on the left wing for Girona this season, the Brazilian has previously operated on both wings and in central attacking areas during a spell with PSV.

However, as per Sam Lee’s report, it is stated that Savio is regarded as more of a wide threat by Manchester City.

Savio has retained his position as a mainstay in the Girona line-up throughout the course of the ongoing season, and played an integral role in firing the club towards the top of La liga and into an intense battle with Real Madrid for the title.

Across 22 appearances in the Spanish top-flight so far this season, Savio has managed to record a commendable five goals and seven assists, starring in a side that also boasts fellow Manchester City talent Yan Couto.

The senior Brazil international is another player that Manchester City are likely to assess over a potential switch into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, especially given the ongoing feeling that a long-term successor to Kyle Walker may be needed sooner rather than later.
