Manchester City are reportedly set to recall their on-loan full-back talent Josh Wilson-Esbrand, with the player currently developing his talents in French football.

It comes on a transfer deadline day that is widely expected to be dominated by Manchester City’s positioning of youth talents to further heighten their development in senior level football.

Manchester City have been inundated with interest from various clubs this month, with Micah Hamilton in particular commanding interest from three Championship sides but only to see the Premier League champions rebuff all communications.

Now, Etihad Stadium officials are focussing some level of attention on the future of one of their existing on-loan prospects, with Josh Wilson-Esbrand likely to be repositioned in the hours that remain in the January transfer window.

That is according to the information of French outlet Le Parisien, who report that Manchester City are expected to recall Josh Wilson-Esbrand from his current loan agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Stade de Reims amid concerns over game time.

The development concerning Manchester City’s highly-rated defensive prospect follows Stade de Reims’ capture of UD Almeira left-back Sergio Akieme, who is widely expected to become their first-choice defender in the position.

Wilson-Esbrand’s opportunities at senior level under Pep Guardiola were somewhat limited during his time with the first-team squad, having registered just three appearances across all competitions to date, but recording an assist in the process.

Guardiola is currently using a number of players out of position in the left-back role this season, but also to great success with Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake interchanging in the position and restricting other players, including Sergio Gomez, to the bench.

Josh Wilson-Esbrand signed a long-term deal with Manchester City in February 2022, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.
