Manchester City faltering in attempts to renew contract of defender targeted by Real Madrid
Real Madrid may be encouraged by the latest developments surrounding Manchester City’s attempts to renew the contract of rising Brazilian full-back talent Yan Couto.
The 21-year-old’s starring performances in La Liga this season have thrown Couto’s profile right into the limelight and into the attentions spans of Europe’s premier clubs, including his parent club Manchester City.
The Premier League champions are likely to be on the search for fresh recruits in defensive roles this summer, and could even look towards replacing the ageing Kyle Walker amid mixed performances this season.
However, while City toss and turn over whether to firmly implement Yan Couto into their first-team squad, rival clubs are continuing to look into the possibility of snatching the talent right from their grasps amid an ongoing contract stand-off between parties.
That is according to the information of Spanish newspaper Sport, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness this week, who reports that Manchester City’s Yan Couto – currently on loan at Girona – has become the ‘new objective’ for Real Madrid in the upcoming transfer window.
Couto’s current Manchester City agreement runs until the summer of 2025, and according to the information of Sport, the Premier League champions have tried to extend the full-back’s contract ‘without success to date’.
At present, Couto continues to have his full focus on Girona’s highly-impressive push for a maiden La Liga title, as they continue to go head-to-head with Spanish giants Real Madrid at the very top of the division.
Across Yan Couto’s 21 appearances in La Liga competitions so far this campaign, the rising full-back talent – who earned his first senior Brazil cap in Autumn 2023 – has registered a commendable one goal and seven assists.
