Manchester City will get a deal over the line for West Ham United and Brazil international midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer on certain conditions.
Officials from within the Etihad Stadium targeted a move for Paqueta during the most recent summer transfer window, as the club looked to prepare themselves for life without Kevin De Bruyne for half of the season following his hamstring injury.
That alongside a willingness to strengthen their midfield ranks for the campaign saw Manchester City internally sanction a fee in excess of £80 million to get a transfer over the line, before an FA investigation over gambling forced the club to withdraw all interest.
However, with the Premier League champions holding an interest in strengthening their midfield during the summer transfer window of 2024, they are looking likely to return to West Ham with a fresh proposal for Paqueta.
That is according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, who claims that a transfer fee of £45 million plus the services of Kalvin Phillips will get a deal done between Manchester City and West Ham for star midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer.
It is further detailed that those working on negotiations within the London Stadium still expect Lucas Paqueta to want to come to Manchester City if he is cleared of his gambling allegations by that point in the year.
Phillips is expected to complete a move to West Ham this week, as he puts pen to paper on a six-month loan deal at the London Stadium hoping to revive his top-level playing career and stake a claim for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England tournament squad.
The 28-year-old is currently on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s first-team, arguably failing to secure any meaningful and consistent minutes since joining the club from Leeds United in the summer of 2022.
West Ham, who have been long-term admirers of Phillips and his capabilities in the centre of the park, are understood to have secured themselves an option to buy the former Elland Road star on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
