Pep Guardiola compares Manchester City debate to deciding between “mum or dad”

| Last Updated:

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that make a decision on one particular debate over his Treble-winning side is like deciding between parents.

Guardiola and his City players are currently away on a warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi, as they collectively prepare themselves for an all-important second-half of the season that is likely to be as hectic as previous campaigns.

As such, the ongoing winter break is likely to present Manchester City with their final chance to rest and recuperate, whilst also providing them with an opportunity to celebrate their successes of 2023 one final time.

Over the course of the weekend, Manchester City have been in attendance at the illustrious Globe Soccer awards in Dubai, in which a significant number of the club’s operational staff and playing squad were credited with top prizes on the night.

Whilst being greeted on stage and recognising his current crop of history-making Manchester City players, manager Pep Guardiola was issued with an almost impossible question to answer in front of a star-studded guestlist.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer awards in Dubai this week, as relayed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Pep Guardiola was asked to decide between his current Manchester City team or his legendary Barcelona squad.

The Catalan boss was unable to provide a verdict, responding in brilliant fashion, “It’s like mum or dad!”

Manchester City’s 2023 was arguably the most successful calendar year achieved by any club in the history of English football, as the reigning Premier League champions claimed a total of five trophies across England, Europe, and the globe.

Winning a third successive English top-flight title at the end of last season, Manchester City went on to claim a second FA Cup trophy under Pep Guardiola, before succeeding in their second-ever UEFA Champions League final over Inter in Istanbul.

Those prizes were then followed up by a UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla in the Greek city of Athens at the start of the 2023/24 season, while victory in Saudi Arabia at the FIFA Club World Cup capped off a remarkable year.
